KARDEŞ TÜRKÜLER-ISTANBUL

Musics and Dances of Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Thrace
Existing as part of the Boğaziçi Performing Arts Ensemble, the Kardeş Türküler project works within the world of music to emphasize the fraternity of peoples. Performing the folk songs and dances of Anatolia, Thrace and Mesopotamia in their original languages, and paying special attention to their own cultural contexts, the group expresses the hope of living together in fraternity in a region with many different cultures.
Kardeş Türküler is an Istanbul-based musical group, internationally known for their use of traditional Anatolian, Middle Eastern and Balkan instruments, drawing upon the rich, varied and conjoined cultural and musical traditions that are the band members' respective birthrights : Turkish, Arabic, Kurdish, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Roma, and Armenian.

Kardeş Türküler was first formed in 1993 as a concert project organized by the Boğaziçi University Folklore Club. Its singers and dancers were among the founding members of the Boğaziçi Performing Arts Ensemble (BGST), of which Kardeş Türküler came to comprise a part. Founded on the ideal of peaceful fraternity, the project is an attempt to represent the multicultural richness of Anatolia, which in the past has led to conflicts more than musical diversity. Kardeş Türküler has released seven albums; performed over 400 concerts; headlined festivals throughout Turkey and Europe, and has been recognized with international accolades, including the award for “Best Film Music” at the prestigious Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival in 2001.
Released by Kalan Music in 2011, the latest album of Kardeş Türküler and Arto Tunçboyacıyan "Çocuk (H)aklı" has been nominated for the 54. Grammy Awards for the best World Music album.

KARDEŞ TÜRKÜLER DANCE-MUSIC PERFORMANCE
The Kardeş Türküler Project also has within its scope to conduct research on the songs  and dances of the many peoples, of Anatolia and its surroundings, with their different languages and beliefs. The resulting compositions, while based firmly on traditional songs and dance forms, are performed within the project’s own approach to arrangement
KARDEŞ TÜRKÜLER & ARA DINKJIAN
Ara Dinkjian is an Armenian born in America in 1958. His earliest professional musical experience was accompanying his father Onnik Dinkjian, a renowned Armenian folk and liturgical singer. Ara learned several western and eastern instruments and in 1980 graduated from the Hartt College of Music, earning the country’s first and only special degree in the instrument for which he has become most well-known, the oud. For the past 35 years, he has continued his post as organist in the Armenian Apostolic Church. Throughout his musical life, Ara has continued to develop his highly personal compositional style which blends his eastern and western roots. In 1985, to help realize these compositions and musical concepts, Ara formed his instrumental quartet, Night Ark, which recorded four CDs for RCA/BMG and Universal/PolyGram. Night Ark’s recordings and concert tours were highly influential for musicians and music lovers throughout the world because they demonstrated how music can move forward while still retaining the dignity and soul of one’s culture. Ara Dinkjian’s compositions have had a universal appeal. His songs have been recorded by world famous instrumentalists and singers in thirteen different languages, demonstrating that music does indeed unite people and cultures.
